Senior Corporate Counsel

On behalf of a global healthcare technology company we are looking for a Senior Corporate Counsel on an interim basis to support the In-House Counsel offering first class legal advice and support for the U.S entity. They will be responsible for assisting on legal matters and projects, with the primary objectives of ensuring legal compliance, delivering effective risk management and promoting governance. 

Specifically you will be...

  • Providing general legal support across all corporate areas, working with external counsel where appropriate (e.g. commercial, corporate, intellectual property, disputes, employment, property, governance and regulatory compliance, data protection).
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to managers and the executive team on legal matters and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations of federal, state and, in conjunction with the Group Quality Management function, regulatory bodies (e.g. FDA).
  • Preparing, advising on and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Advising on corporate matters, including company administration, and undertaking some Insurance responsibilities.
  • Researching, anticipating and guarding against legal risks.
  • Developing processes for efficiency, reduction of complexity and delivering maximum business value.
  • Implementing Group governance and playing a relevant role in ensuring the best decision-making.
  • Developing appropriate strategies for legal matters, including disputes.
  • Identifying and owning relationships with external law firms providing specialist advice, including performance management and budgetary control.

 
Skills and Experience…

  • At least 8 years’ relevant in-house or law firm experience covering commercial and corporate law.
  • Experience working in life sciences or health and tech companies would be highly sought after for supporting this client effectively.
  • Experience of additional legal specialism(s) including IP, employment, litigation or property would be helpful (but not essential).
  • Juris Doctor Degree; licensed and in good standing with a US state bar.
  • A commercial mindset and strong understanding of how to apply legal services to provide value in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Independence and judgement; in particular, knowing when to escalate and make hard decisions.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong legal skills, together with business acumen and a customer-focused approach.
  • Analytical ability, with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high level of competency around negotiation and persuasive communication.
